Licensed Psychologist and the Schoen Family Sport Psychology Program Director, JRamaeker@nd.edu, University of Notre Dame
Dr. Joey Ramaeker is a Licensed Psychologist and the Schoen Family Sport Psychology Program Director at the University of Notre Dame. In this role, he leads the psychological services for the athletic department, focusing on the mental health, well-being, and performance optimization of student-athletes.
Joey’s professional approach is deeply informed by his own background in collegiate athletics, having competed as a baseball student-athlete at Occidental College. This lived experience provides him with a unique perspective on the high-pressure environments and relational dynamics inherent in elite sports.
Prior to joining Notre Dame, Joey served as a staff clinician and pre-doctoral intern at Iowa State University, where he specialized in expanding mental health resources for student-athlete populations. He earned his doctorate in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of North Texas, following a Master’s degree from Boston College. His work continues to bridge the gap between clinical rigor and the practical and dynamic demands of modern collegiate athletics.
