John E. Kurtz PhD

Dr. John Kurtz is Professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Villanova University and a licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He has been on the faculty at Villanova since 1996. He completed undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley and doctoral studies in clinical psychology at Vanderbilt University, working under Leslie Morey on the construction and validation of the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI). He completed clinical internship training at the Veterans Affairs and University of Michigan hospitals in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and an NIH post-doctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology and rehabilitation research at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Kurtz’s clinical training has focused on adult psychology and gerontology, including assessment and psychotherapy with dementia, head injury, and attention and learning disorders. Currently, Dr. Kurtz serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Personality Assessment and Assessment. He conducts research on the PAI and other psychological tests, adult personality development, and the use of knowledgeable informants in personality assessment. Dr. Kurtz also serves as a consultant on the use of the PAI in selection contexts, notably third-party reproduction candidates (gamete donors and gestational carriers).
