This webinar will be the first installment in a series of talks designed to introduce the new Feifer Assessment of Childhood Trauma (FACT) and how to use it in practice settings. The FACT is a multipurpose rating scale crafted to convey how stress and trauma impacts children and adolescents in a school-based setting. The instrument is designed to quantify the impact of traumatic experiences on school-based functioning, and to generate specific interventions for “at-risk” children. There will be a detailed discussion of the prevalence of stress and trauma among school aged children, specific brain regions impacted by trauma, how the nervous system becomes sensitized to trauma, as well as a description of each of the FACT’s clinical impact scales, clusters, and their score ranges. Targeted assessment and intervention strategies featuring the new FACT measure will be featured in the webinar.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

Describe the prevalence of trauma and stress for school aged children, as well as the various sources from which trauma can occur.
Identify key brain regions that are impacted when students experience stress and trauma, and the subsequent effect on academic and social skills’ development.
List the areas of functioning assessed by the FACT to measure the impact of trauma on academic and social-emotional functioning in a school environment.
